Barbour

I am seriously craving this Barbour Beaufront Jacket like nothing else. It would be the perfect jacket for the Vancouver climate, and would go quite nicely with any outfit! With its tartan lining and leather detailing it would be the perfect addition to my closet. Hopefully I can get my hands on one over the holiday season. Happy Holidays!

Updates

Finals are coming to an end, although I have one on the last day of exams...not my preference, but hey what can you do, and then it is finally back to the winter wonderland I call home, Edmonton. I'm excited to go back and to see my family and closest friends. I love Vancouver, but there's no doubt that this will be a much needed break and change of pace. 2011 has probably been my best year yet. I've experienced so much, and it has been a year of serious change in terms of friendships, relationships and learning about myself. I can finally say that maybe, just maybe I've grown up. Who would have thought that would ever happen?
I've learned to let go of the petty drama and to let things happen as they will. I've noticed something with this though, and I'll try to explain it as best I can, but it's almost as if when I  actually start to care about something or someone, things don't go my way, or even in a direction that could be viewed as positive. When I let things happen, and let them progress naturally everything is great. Why?  I honestly wonder and can't find the answer to my dilemma no matter how hard I try. Here's to hoping that 2012 is a year of turning this trend around and finding a fine balance!

On a lighter note I picked up my brand new iPhone today, and I couldn't be happier. I even got an adorable Kate Spade phone case to protect this baby. Cute and functional, perfect for an accident prone person like myself.

Happy Weekend!

to add fuel to the fire

Last night I posted about how I'm unsure if boys and girls can be JUST friends. That ever elusive friendship seems so hard to come by these days, and as females I don't think we're really honest with ourselves about these friendships we claim to have. This video, discovered tonight through a friend's facebook was quite timely and only further proves this distorted perception we seem to hold. Check it out and see for yourself!

xoxo C.

Just Friends?

Think about, really think about it. As a female, or male for that matter, how many members of the opposite sex would you consider a good friend who has only ever been a friend? Someone you've never felt anything more than friendship for, no undertones of sexual tension or flirtation, and have solely been friends with. Exes or someone you may have hooked up with before don't count. Ideally all we want is friendship, but how hard is that to attain? When I think about this tons of people come to mind as great friends NOW, but for a large portion of them there has been, at some point in time, feelings or curiosity towards the other on someone's part. Be it me, or him, it happens. It may not last long, or it may last longer than we even want to admit, but it has still been there. I'm lucky if we actually can end up as friends after something like that, because my track record as of late would state otherwise. Am I the only one on this page? Can boys and girls be just friends or is the curiosity always going to be there? More importantly, if you do give into the curiosity of what your "friend" has to offer how do you maintain an amicable friendship afterwards? These are just some late night ponderings and the venti christmas blend I had a couple hours ago isn't helping matters. Goodnight friends!

Couldn't Have Said It Better Myself

When in doubt, stay classy and ask yourself what would the world's favorite princess do?
xoxo C.

Quick & Easy: Puppy Chow

Here we go for round 2. I've been on a spree of making Christmas treats for myself and the room mates. One of my favorites so far has been puppy chow. Don't let the name fool you. This is a delectable treat! I've altered the recipe a bit to fit my specifications (namely more chocolate/peanut buttery).

What You'll Need:
8 cups of Chex cereal (I used honey nut flavor)
2 cups of chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups icing sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a large bowl melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, butter and vanilla and mix well. Put the Chex cereal in a large ziploc bag and pour the chocolate mixture in. Give a good shake until all the chex pieces are perfectly coated in the chocolate mixture and pour in the icing sugar to lightly dust all the goodies inside. Once you have thoroughly mixed everything, you are ready to enjoy!

You won't be able to stop eating this so beware. Bon Appetit!
xoxo C.

Quick & Easy: Fluffernutter Cake in a Mug

Lately I've spent the majority of my weekends staying in baking, reading and watching movies. It's amazing how much you can get accomplished when you're not tired, hungover or drinking. Last weekend I came across a recipe for fluffernutter cake for one. For those of you who don't know, fluffernutter consists of chocolate peanut butter cake with a marshmallow topping. Heaven? To me at least. Here is the recipe, so grab a cold glass of milk, a nice Christmas movie and try it tonight!

4 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons of cocoa (or 1 packet hot chocolate mix)
3 tablespoons peanut butter
3 tablespoons milk
1 egg

Mix all these ingredients in a LARGE mug and pop in the microwave for about 2-3 minutes. When a toothpick comes out clean you are ready to go!

For the marshmallow topping I melted a handful of marshmallows with a little bit of Becel margarine and you have a nice whipped marshmallow topping.

There you have it! Quick, easy and so delicious.

Half gone!

IT'S DECEMBER 9TH

So...It's December 9th, 2011. This number sounds incredibly strange to me, because in all honesty I never thought it would get here so fast. I haven't blogged, or thought about blogging in over a month which is utterly unacceptable but also not very cool in my books. Writing is something that should be an escape, a form of stress relief and often I need to remember this. As an English major the amount of writing that I'm obligated to do on a regular basis completely drains me, but I need to get over this hurdle. In other words I miss this, I miss writing for no purpose other than for those who actually read what I have to say (all 7 of you <3). Anyways, not much has occurred other than numerous papers and the inevitable onset of final exams, something I know most of you are accustomed to. I've been baking lots and intend to share a couple of recipes that are not only quick, but easy and need limited ingredients. So stay tuned and I assure you that you'll be fulfilled with the newest additions. Love ya!

Flustered in Fall

Where have I been? I could honestly ask myself that same question and not know the answer. I'm not going to bitch about midterms and schoolwork so my guess is just crazed with life...and when I'm crazed with life the extra moments I find are filled up with naps. Can't take those siestas for granted my friends, but I do apologize for the short hiatus. Anyways since I have an upcoming paycheck and the days are getting colder I'm feeling a little sweater indulgence is in order. I'm really feeling this Michael Kors turtleneck sweater. It also comes in a cream color, but the camel is really doing it for me.
{via michaelkors}

Anyways I should probably hit the hay as a full week of Halloween festivities is starting up and I need all the energy I can muster. On another note HOW ANNOYING is that Cake Boss man? I can't stop watching TLC but he makes me want to puncture my eardrums.

Awkward & Awesome

It's possibly my favorite weekend of the year this weekend, Thanksgiving! To top it all off I'm  back in Edmonton to see my friends and family. How happy can a girl be?
Anyways this week was filled with numerous moments both awkward and awesome, so here we go.

Awkward:
-seeing people who you used to know inside and out and not even exchanging a hello.
-going to the bottle depot and spilling my entire cart of bottles. not fun to pick up.
-walking into someone's house thinking they're not home, proceeding to talk to their dog, and walking into the kitchen only to find someone there thinking you are nutso.
-having an essay due on the sunday of thanksgiving weekend. listen i know you are in nigeria professor, but really? have a heart.
-my uncontrollable snorting while watching 'What's your number?' It was funny, give me a break.

Awesome:
-being home and seeing my friends and dogs and family.
-one word. thanksgiving...need i say more?
-letting bygones be bygones and renewing a friendship you thought was completely lost.
-making new friends over a casual beer at the airport.
-having my cab driver tell me that just the way i talk brightened his day. apparently i can't help but laughing as i speak? who knows.
-pre-plane presents. who doesn't love a magazine and some candy?
-checking a suitcase full of food ie: apple pie, cupcakes, and cookies galore to take back to Vancouver. Love me roomies.

Hope you have an absolutely superb Thanksgiving weekend, I know I will!

Killer Cake

So I'm supposed to be writing a short story for my creative writing class, but I couldn't resist sharing this "killer" recipe with you. This is my roomie, Kaitlin's, favorite cake, and for good reason. I made it this weekend and it is literally one of the most delicious things I've tasted, and since Halloween is drawing ever closer why not try your hand at making some festive Killer Cake.

What You'll Need:
-1 box of dark chocolate (I prefer Devil's food cake) cake mix
-one carton (500ml) of whipping cream (you can use Cool Whip, but it just isn't as good!)
-2 packages of chocolate mousse (find it in the jello section)
-4 Skor bars
-milk

Get Baking!
1. Bake the cake according to directions on the box.
2. While the cake is baking start making your chocolate mousse in a large bowl. Once that is done put it in the fridge to chill and thicken.
3. Whip your whipping cream either by hand or with a mixer and add sugar or vanilla extract to taste.
4. Once your cake is done break the entire thing up into bite sizes pieces.
5. Break the Skor bars into bits and pieces (small enough to sprinkle on top).
6. In a large bowl (preferably clear to see the layers) make a layer of the cake pieces, then a layer of the mousse followed by a layer of whipped cream and repeat this process until you are out of your ingredients. Make sure you finish with a layer of whipped cream, then proceed to sprinkle your Skor bits on top.

Voila! Killer Cake. Bon Appetit.

That is the finished product, and I promise next time I make it, it will be prettier.
Try it out, your taste buds will thank you!
xoxo C.

Awkward and Awesome Week

It's that time again...the weekend! Tonight I will be staying in and baking. Wait until you see the beauty I'm whipping up. I swear the older we get the faster these weeks go by. So much to accomplish and so little time it seems. As promised though, the weekly edition of what has been awkward and awesome lately.

Awkward:
-Trying to get my daily twitter fix while in class, and I honestly don't know how but with a combination of trying to pay attention and show off my typing speed or something I ended up at www.tit.com. Yeah, for future reference I recommend NOT going there. Especially with people all around you asking themselves "Who the hell is this weirdo?"
-Coming home after a long day of learning and thinking I'm walking into my friends place to say hey, when in reality it's not their place at all. Try the next block of houses. I literally strolled into someone else's kitchen, sat down and started talking to random girls before I realized my little mistake.
-Actually looking semi decent for school and spilling my starbucks all down the front of myself. good thing I was in beige pants, and NO I did not pee myself thanks.
-Walking down Broadway while pushing the stroller of the little girl I babysit. First off I look like a teen mom let's be honest, but to top it all off, I'm wearing a tee that says 'HUNG like a GG' on the front and 'RIDE IT' on the back. Classy huh?

Awesome:
-Experiencing the best Dim Sum I've ever tasted, with the most fabulous Longboat team mates a girl could ask for. Check out Sun Sui Wah on Main and 23rd if you're ever in Vancouver!
-Discovering Lord Voldemort on twitter. I can't stop laughing. Go right now to @Lord_Voldemort7.
-Studying to some classics, we brought back the Matchbox 20 this week and I don't care what you say but 3 AM is an amazing song.
-Realizing just how soon I get to head home to see my family and friends in Edmonton! Time sneaks up on you.
-My friend Mariah telling me she has a pumpkin farm and corn maze. My dream come true. Hello pumpkin carving and maze exploring, here I come. I can't get enough of autumn. I've said it once and I'll say it again.

Words

Everyone always asks you where you're going in life, and really at this point I couldn't tell a single soul who asked me. They ask me what I'm majoring in at school and when I respond with the dreaded words I'm an English major, I'm faced with a questioning look every single time (unless they're one of my fellow English majors), but really at this point in my life it's the only thing that actually makes sense for me, that feels like it fits. There are tons of opportunities out there in regards to life after school with an English degree, it's just a matter of choosing what's right and what works. For me (really the only person who matters in this case) that's good enough. So in a feeble attempt to somehow get across to all those who don't really understand my choices here you go.

Think about it.

Black Bathroom

So I was looking around on Tumblr and came across these photos:
{img via prettystuff.tumblr}

{img via melanieacevedo.com}

Black walls in a bathroom. I've never really thought about it, but I love everything about this decor. The colour scheme is phenomenal to me with the light jade and coral accents. I think that having black walls in a bedroom, or larger living space may be a touch too much, unless it were an accent wall, but in the bathroom it seems just right. What do you think?

Weekend Comfort

Another weekend is upon us and I have to say I'm more excited to stay in and lounge with my sweats and glasses, a nice cup of tea, a few books (some school related, others not so school related), and to watch a good movie than to go out.

Have a great weekend!

Awkward & Awesome

So I thought I would try to institute some sort of weekly post that I could look forward to writing. I came across the blog The Daybook thanks to my good friend Alana and ever since that fateful day in August I can't get enough of Sydney and her cute little family.  Sydney does a post every Thursday about both the awkward and awesome moments she has had throughout the week and every week I think to myself "Wow that's a great idea!" More over, I  think about all the awkward and awesome encounters I have through out the week, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Awkward:
-almost getting ran over by a cyclist, who coincidentally used to be someone of great importance in my life...you seriously couldn't even stop and utter a sorry?
-today's journey to class with some random man venting to me about the 'ghetto' life he leads and how everyone he knows judges him too hard.
-having to tweet a certain someone to clean their puke off the front of our house.
-the shameful moment a lady at starbucks told me I had TP sticking out the back of my jeans.
-my math prof telling me he reads my blog from time to time. who knew?

Awesome:
-being walked home after a night out, gentlemen do still exist in this world.
-above said gentleman asking to make dinner for me (I repeat they do exist).
-developing a sense of neighborly love; why yes you can borrow some milk anytime!
-taking a personal day and doing absolutely nothing. sometimes you just need it.
-decaf earl grey tea being introduced to my life, why didn't we know each other before?
-having a terrible night turn into the beginning of a beautiful friendship (hello karma).
-having a nice glass (or 2..) of diablo wine while doing homework or skyping my best friend.

Autumn Love

I love fall. What's not to love? I can think of hundreds of things that just make this season one of absolute perfection. Here are a few for you to ponder and get you started on your own 'Things You Love About Fall' list.
{img via talking-birds.tumblr}

Enjoy this beautiful season before it's snatched from us by winter's frosty fingers.
(Or in the case of home away from home Vancouver, the never ending days of rain.)

Ombre Locks

I get restless so easily and with that said it may be time to give my hair a little change up. I've been wanting to participate in some experimentation with my locks (albeit subtle and classy experimentation). Before I left for school at the end of the summer I was talking to a friend, who is also a really great hair dresser, and she thought that an ombre dye job, done tastefully mind you, would look good on these locks of mine. I'm feeling more of a Lauren Conrad look, not a Drew Barrymore.

Hello ladies (or gents for that matter) here is a blog post that you absolutely have to read. Although it may or may not ring true for some of us, for others this is bang on it seems. So give it a read, and enjoy a good laugh or the funny feeling of realization that these are some fine words of wisdom.

Purse Envy

I don't know about you, but I've been secretly (or not so secretly), craving a large yet cute carry all that could work for school and everything else. When I saw this Proenza Schouler bag on net-a-porter I fell in love. It comes in so many gorgeous colours, who could resist? Unfortunately I didn't fall in love with the price tag, and I for one do not have the funds for a $2000 bag!
{img via netaporter}

So with a little sleuthing I was able to find a look-a-like for under $100 on Bag Inc. Coming in a variety of gorgeous autumn colours (although not my beloved raspberry shade), you can't go wrong.
{img via baginc.com}

Or finally you could go the ASOS route and check out their gem for $110. In my books this oxblood colour is a steal. I guess anything is compared to the real PS1.
{img via ASOS.com}

I guess a girl can dream for the real thing!

Girl Crush

I've had girl crushes in the past, namely on Mila Kunis cause she's fabulous. Who can disagree, but lately I can't get enough of Emma Roberts. She's been dressing fantastically these past few months and her hair has never looked better. Whether she's dressed casually or going for a more elegant look, in my eyes she can do no wrong.
{all imgs via tumblr, weheartit}

Neeeeeeeeed You.

I've been loving on this whole raspberry, wine, burgundy trend for a while and seeing Natalie's latest posts my craving was set into motion once again. These BCBG loafers are adorable and would go well with numerous items in my wardrobe. Can I have you please?

Simple Pleasures

Classes have started, and summer has come to an abrupt end. I went from wearing shorts one day to jeans and boots the next. I guess you learn to expect that from Vancouver weather. School has been pretty hectic as most of you probably know all too well, but life's little pleasures keep us all going.

Chanel Peridot Le Vernis Nail Colour
I picked up a bottle of this nail polish at The Bay a few days ago and since I have a camera, but lost the cord to transfer photos to my laptop I won't be able to provide you with a picture of my nails, so you will have to try it out for yourself. And you really should. I'd never tried a Chanel polish before, but this goes on smoothly, and with just 2 coats I got a beautiful golden, khaki colour that has yet to chip, which with me is a feat in itself. At 27$ it is a bit of a splurge, but I would say it is well worth it.
[img via temptalia.com]

Essie Nail Lacquer 'Wrapped in Rubies'
I'm not a huge Essie fan, but I thought I might as well give them another try. For around $8 at Shoppers this polish isn't overly expensive, and it surprisingly goes on very well. A perfect fall colour, it glimmers and gives your nails a beautiful burgundy glow. With only 2 coats you are set to go, although I found that it chipped quite easily so make sure you use a solid top coat.

New Glasses!
I finally got around to getting some new frames, and found the winning ones at Hakim Optical off Whyte. After getting a stellar deal while talking with our man Hakim I decided to go for a new style. New year, new glasses, new organizational skills, as demonstrated by my cute agenda.

Grounds for Coffee Cinnamon Buns
These cinnamon buns are stellar. Found at Vancouver's very own coffee shop called 'Grounds for Coffee' you can get a single bun, or even a whole box. With the best cream cheese icing your taste buds will ever encounter, you can't go wrong!

What are the simple pleasures that get you through the school day, week, or even the month?

xoxo C.

Transitional Essentials

Another summer is sadly coming to a close. Where did the time go? I know I've been gearing up for the move back to school and here are a few of my essentials that I CANNOT forget.
Origins VitaZing Moisturizer- This tiny tube works magic. First off it is great for anyone with super sensitive skin like myself. All organic and hypoallergenic and whatnot. Secondly it moisturizes all day long. And thirdly it gives your skin a gorgeous glow that will have people saying "Oh hey, nice tan!" Not "Oh hey, you look like Snooki!" It's made of natural ingredients, feels natural and best of all looks natural, so what's not to like?

The Falsies Mascara- This wonderful creation by Maybelline is a keeper. A great mascara for every day use, as you can use it to really amp up your lashes, or wear one coat for a more natural look. I find that it doesn't really clump and that my lashes have never looked more long, luscious and voluminous.

MAC Lustre Lipstick in Lovelorn- I'm not a huge lipstick girl, but I can officially say that they are growing on me. I recently picked up this MAC lipstick in Lovelorn and it is a beautiful soft pink that can be layered on for a brighter look. I find that it works on so many levels, and best of all it keeps my lips nice and moisturized!

Back In Action

Hello my friends! It has been ages upon ages since I've done a post, but school is upon us sooner than you'd think. Therefore the following may be long and boring but bear with me if you're at all interested in catching up. My summer consisted of an eventful, and utterly eye-opening trip to Costa Rica for a solid 2 and a half months. And let me just say I've never experienced anything like it. Hard to put into words, but what I do know is that 1. I NEED to return in the near future, if not to visit my newfound friends, to visit such a happy country once again. 2. My travels are definitely continuing, with places such as India and Asia on my list. Anyways I highly recommend a trip  to Costa Rica if you haven't already been.

I also got in some solid family time in Chicago, which is always nice, and not to mention one of my favorite places on the planet. Other than that I've been happily fun-employed (aka unemployed for those not up to date on my lingo), so my days have consisted of working out, tanning in my back yard, and being an avid moksha yoga attendee. It may be a new addiction.  If you haven't tried it out I would say give it a shot, and if you have reservations because of the sweaty hell that bikram was, don't hate on moksha. It may be sweaty, but just trust me when I say it is ten times better. PS! If you sign up now an introductory month is only $40 for unlimited classes, which is a hella good deal. So get on it.

Well thanks for reading my ramblings, and hopefully since school generally forces me into a routine of some sort I can be a bit more attentive to my lonely blog. Until next time.

xoxo C

Royal Snapshots

I am a HUGE Kate Middleton fan and was loving every minute of the Royal Wedding coverage! How gorgeous did she look? With her makeup done on her own, and her locks that are always so luscious, I could only say positive things. Congrats to the newlyweds, check out a few of my favorite shots of the lovebirds.

Cutest

So I'm an English major here at UBC, but lately I've been thinking about career paths and I literally want to be a wedding planner more and more each day. I just love every aspect of it! Thanks to my friend Alana, I am obsessed with various wedding blogs and one of our faves is Ruffled, so check it out when you have a chance. In the meantime take a peek at this adorable wedding dress/shoe combo. Love the royal blue!

Spring Fling

Holla my nuggets, I finished a paper tonight and it felt literally phenomenal. Nothing like the weight of 40% of your grade lifted off your chest. So I had a couple glasses of a nice Cab Sauv and scoured the world wide web for any eye catching tidbits for all you lovelies. Spring is here, and although the weather hasn't been up to par I'm still loving it. Tomorrow is a chance to get dressed up and hit up Big Block, then Thursday is the last day of classes and with that comes the AMS Block Party, always a fantastic time in the beer gardens with my fellow classmates and with Felix Cartal headlining it's sure to be fab.

Loving the bright lips lately, I've tried a bunch and although I haven't found a shade that I'm really into yet, the fingers are crossed. Any suggestions pour moi?
{via prettythings}

Lavender tips are tickling my fancy as of late, and I have to say I found a pretty slick color at my neighborhood Shoppers. For around 6 bucks I picked up Sally Hansen in Loyal Lavender and it has been a hit! I find that it looks a bit more purply in person, this photo does not do it justice.

Get me to Cinco de Mayo seriously. I hope Edmonton will cooperate and the weather will be nice enough for an outdoor fiesta of some sort. Does this not look utterly phenomenal?
{via beautifulsimplethings}

and seriously if you haven't already, which I'm sure you have if you're in your right mind, head on over and check out Bee's blog at http://atlantic-pacific.blogspot.com/ and feast your eyes on a wardrobe that is TO DIE FOR. Oh if only.
